Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) sits in an unusual regulatory position in the United States: the FDA excluded it from the definition of a dietary supplement in 2022, and while enforcement has been light, the risk profile is real for a brand with meaningful ecommerce distribution.
The two most common routes brands are taking: (1) reformulate to nicotinamide riboside (NR), which remains fully compliant as a supplement ingredient, and (2) build a broader longevity stack — resveratrol, spermidine, urolithin A — where the NAD+ story is one pillar rather than the whole product.
From a manufacturing standpoint, both NMN and NR are moisture-sensitive. Capsule fills should target under 5% moisture in the blend, and finished goods should ship with desiccant packs. Tablet forms are viable but require tighter environmental controls than a standard vitamin press.
Expect the regulatory picture to keep shifting. Design your artwork to allow ingredient swaps without a full label reprint.
